Adventure Tip #3 Choosing Multi Tools

Frankly there is no such thing as best Multi-Tool, every tools suit every person differently. With more than 2 decades using Multi-tool experience, I have narrowed down to my needs.

Last couple of years of my usage there are 2 kind of Multi-tools, one for OUTDOOR / TRAVELING and the other for EDC URBAN SURVIVAL TOOL.

Leatherman Wave with Steel Saw Add-on

I have been scouting for weeks on the internet on how to add a steel saw blade on my Leatherman Wave. Most of the results came from forum.multitool.org and none of it really fits my bill.

Ganzo G704 Survival Folding Knife

Ganzo is a Chinese company that produces many kind of knives and multi-tools. This Chinese branded G704 knife had many good reviews on the internet. Youtube has some reviews but it was this review on Blade Forum that made me decided to get one to see for myself.

Leatherman Bit Kit

Since 1998 Leatherman Wave has been my primary work tool. This is a must have everyday survival tool for me. In 2009 the tool broke down and I was given a replacement by Leatherman. The replacement was the second generation Wave which comes with replaceable tool bits, a better design than before. 

Leatherman Juice Xe6 Multi-Tool

Another product from Leatherman that I owned.  The reason I got this tool was to lighten my load. I used to carry my Leatherman Wave and a Swiss Army knife when I am out travelling. The reason for carrying the Swiss Army knife was the cork screw tool. The Leatherman Juice full fills both my other tool functions but there are a few set back I like to share.

CRKT Doug Ritter RSK MK5 Mini Fixed Blade

Mini Fixed Blade? What are you seriously going to do with it? Can this little fella do a lot? First impression,  I thought this would be a better ladies knife otherwise a great survival kit knife. 

Commando Wire Saw

I have the BCB version for many years and found it was effective. There are many types of wire saw but I wanted to get the same as the BCB. Found a supplier and order a few to try it out. Below are some info how to improve the wire saw and a demo I put on YouTube.

P-38 Can Opener

It survives World War II, sees action in Korean and Vietnam War today it still serves the Army. The US Army P-38 can opener is every Marine survival tool. Those days, most of the combat ration comes in can and without this little tool, it will prove a hard time opening the cans. It is called P-38 for 2 reasons, the size of the can opener is 38mm and it takes 38 times to open the can. 

Fire Starting Tool

In the market, there are various types of fire starting tools available, from windproof lighters, waterproof matches, magnesium flint, fire steel etc. I like to share my views on which is the best fire kit to have in a survival kit.

I am very happy with Leatherman services both locally in Taiwan and USA. Currently the distributor for Leatherman in Taiwan is by 業成有限公司. I had send them an email about my first edition Wave defective condition that I bought many years back and they had gladly asked me to return the defective Wave for a replacement.
